Jamie Pietras’ latest multimedia project is Soul Incarcerated – a podcast released by iHeart Media in 2025 that traces the origins of the funk/soul prison band, The Edge of Daybreak. The acclaimed Dawn Porter directed a documentary film released on A&E that was based on the podcast and incorporated much of Pietras’ original research.
Pietras’ literary works include non-fiction books on Frida Kahlo and Hurricane Katrina. A prolific journalist focusing on civil rights issues, his writing has appeared in New York Magazine, Salon.com, Time Out New York, Bomb, The Nation and beyond.
